Rapido is happy to announce the next in their series of classic General Electric locomotives, the C30-7 in HO scale.

The C30-7 was General Electrics improvement of the U30C locomotive, featuring a 16-cylinder 3,000 horsepower diesel engine. Built between September 1976 and May 1986, over 1100 units were produced for many of the Class I railroads across the United States for use primarily in heavy-haul freight. A fair number would go on to have extended careers with both short/regional lines and private industrial railroads, owing to the locomotives reliability and pulling power.

It is, perhaps, the most polarizing locomotive from the 1980s and early 90s. The C30-7 was GEs answer to the SD40-2. When one thinks of Powder River and coal, the C30-7 isnt far behind. Burlington Northern owned the most in the States, with just over 240 examples. Santa Fe was a distant second with 157 C30s.

The SD30C-ECOs have been delivered in two batches:
the first batch was comprised of unit numbers 5000-5019 (delivered in 2013) and the second batch included units 5020-5049. (delivered in 2015/16)

All of the SD30C-ECOs were rebuilt from -donor- SD40-2s and were given brand new pilots, fuel tanks, cabs, and noses, but retained the frames, steps, and trucks of their donor units. (as well as a great deal of the internal mechanical parts) The long hoods of the donor units were cut up and some components were spliced into the rebuild construction, so the rear-most section of the long hood containing the cooling fans and angled radiator grids is all new material but the section of the long hood between the rear wall of the cab and the back of the DB blister is retained from the donor unit. This means that there are several variations of exhaust hatches and traction motor blower ducts depending on which class of SD40-2 the donor unit came from. Most units in both orders were built from Canadian donor units and have GMD ladder-style steps and end platform handrails, but there are a few units mixed into both orders that were built from American donor units and have the angled steps and handrail profile characteristic of La Grange-built SD40-2s. Despite the unit-to-unit inconsistencies owing to the varied classes of the donor units, there are (luckily) a few spotting differences that are consistent between the two batches of rebuilds.

Units 5000-5019 are not locotrol equipped and all feature a single tubular -radome- on the cab roof that encloses all antennae. (GPS, EOT, and radio) All units from this order have standard road numbers but no additional information or lettering on the cab sides. Horns are mounted on top of the conductors side of the long hood just behind the DB fans, and the bells are located under the frame on the conductors side, just ahead of the fuel tank. The GP38. That -other- Geep youve been waiting for! At long last there is a proto-specific, dynamically detailed, Electro-Motive
General Purpose -38- class locomotive. And it only took 50 years since the last straight 38 rolled out of La Grange, Illinois. This
venerable locomotive packed 2,000 hp, low or high short hoods and paved the way for future -GP- models to follow. 706 of these
four-axle beasts were manufactured at EMDs La Grange Plant, at the heart of railroad world. Of the 706 built, Penn Central, B&O
and Southern were the largest purchasers of this model. Southerns were unique in that they continued an age-old tradition of
ordering high short hoods for added crew safety. Their eye-pleasing black, white and gold striping along with their harmonious
Nathan P horns certainly made them fan favorites.
By the 90s, many GP38s were worn down and ready for a rebuild. Many roads either sold them to leasing companies or elected
to rebuild them to Dash 2 standards, some chopping the high hoods down. With the reduction of many four-axle locomotives on
class one rosters, many of these locomotives can still be found racking up miles on regional roads and shortlines. In fact, even some
tourist and museums have GP38s!

Rapido Trains Inc. is proud to announce another essential modern freight car, the Pacific Car & Foundry B-70-69/71/75 class boxcar in HO scale!

As the demand grew in the 70s for larger capacity boxcars, along with the need to replace aging 40ft cars, this series of 50ft double door boxes was produced by PC&F for the Southern Pacific and its subsidiary St. Louis Southwestern (SSW). Constructed between 1972 and 1975, these boxcars are 50ft-7inch in length with a capacity of either 5258 cu ft for standard cars, or 5119 cu ft for those equipped for DF (Damage Free) Loading. All B-70 boxcars feature Hydra-Cushion underframes and were delivered with either Youngstown or Superior doors.

Proving to be a versatile addition to the SP/SSW fleet, these boxcars were later rebuilt for Golden West Service and could be seen carrying goods across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Many can still be seen on the rails today, whether in their original SSW or SP paint, as former Golden West cars stenciled back into SP, or under entirely new ownership. Prototype Overview:
In 1966 EMD introduced a new line of locomotives based on the 16-cylinder 645-series prime mover. The
40-series included a six-axle and four-axle model, the latter being the GP40. A total of 1,145 units were
produced between 1966 and 1972. These turbocharged 3,000hp locomotives were used primarily in road
freight service. The GP40 was a versatile locomotive that could be found across the US hauling drag freights
over mountain passes and leading high-speed intermodal trains across flat terrain. Three rooftop radiator fans
at the rear of the long hood differentiate a GP40 from its lower horsepower counterpart, the GP38, which has
two fans at this location.

Concurrent with GP40 production, EMD offered a lower horsepower, non-turbocharged locomotive based on the
same 645-series prime mover. The four-axle GP38 was rated at 2,000 hp and had the advantage of costing less
than the GP40. A total of 727 units were produced between 1966 and 1971 when the model was superseded.
The wheelbase of the GP38 was identical to that of the GP40. Both units shared the same EMD road-switcher
style body that was introduced with the GP35 in 1963. A desire for standardization caused the GP38 to share
the same wheelbase, frame and many external components as the GP40. The GP38 was purchased by large and
small roads alike. It was routinely found in local and road freight service throughout the US. Many GP38s and
40s are still in service today, either having been rebuilt or modified. A locomotive that has withstood the test of
time.

Many options exist on the Atlas GP38 and GP40 models. Some of these are: Long hood with or without dynamic
brakes, multiple fuel tanks, high or shoot hoods, and more.

The M420 was equipped with the ALCO 12V-251c3 prime mover producing 2000 H.P. Most M420 units rode on MLW ZWT (Zero Weight- Transfer) trucks. The only exception to this were the 5 units built for the Providence & Worcester, which rode on ALCO trade-in FA trucks. The P&W required a different bolster design and different truck spacing, making them unique.
MLW constructed 103 M420s between May 1973 and February 1977 for four railways including CN (80), BCR (16 including eight B units), Ferrocarriles del Estado (2), Providence & Worcester (5).
CN would take delivery of the M420s in 3 groups: MR-20a class 2500-2529 (delivered 1973), MR-20b class 2530- 2559 (delivered 1974), and MR-20c class 2560-2579 (delivered 1976).
All of the CN units were retired by 1998 and today many of these locomotives have found second careers on short lines all over North America.

The TSU-PNP8 is a universal factory board replacement sound decoder suitable for use in many manufacturers diesel models such as those made by Atlas, Athearn, Bowser, Kato and InterMountain Models. It is suitable for a wide variety of models from HO to S scale. The TSU2-PNP8 includes a connector to easily add a CurrentKeeper (P.N. 810140) to maintain performance over dirty track and switches. There are two additional function outputs added to the existing TSU2-PNP design using the same lighting circuit and processor pins added for FX7 and FX8. Lighting outputs are compatible with 12-14V bulbs, 1.5V bulbs or LEDs with external resistors.

Prototype Information:


In 1955, Fairbanks Morse offered a new design for their existing H16-44 Phase I/II model locomotives. These changes involved raising the walkway & simplifying the short & long hood to make construction easier. Exterior-wise the locomotives looked much like their bigger brother – the H24-66 but with 4 axles instead of 6. Under the hood the locomotives were nearly identical to the earlier phases of H16-44 except for replacing the Westinghouse Electrical System with a more reliable General Electric system.


A total of 165 of the H16-44 Phase III Locomotives were built between 1955 and 1963. Locomotives for the Canadian Pacific Railway & Canadian National Railway were built by Fairbanks Morse subsidiary Canadian Locomotive Company. A total of 58 H16-44s of were built at this plant. The last H16-44 was built for the Ferrorcarril de Chihuahua al Pacifico Railroad in 1963. This was the last Fairbanks Morse Locomotive to roll off the assembly line as the company folded the same year.

Based on large-silo coal loaders, flood loaders like this are now used in both eastern and western coalfields. Essentially storage silos that hold tons of coal for quickly loading unit train gondolas and hoppers, these large structures are fed by conveyor systems from mines and coal processors or washers that can be miles away - perfect for adding a large industrial shipper along your railroad without modeling the huge associated coal mine shaft or pit - its implied its somewhere off the layout! The Western Coal Flood Loader includes a variety of rooftop machinery that puts realistic detail in this highly visible location. Modular conveyor sections can be arranged in a variety of ways, or combined with other buildings like the New River Mining Company, (933-3221) or Glacier Gravel (933-3241, this structure is similar to a coal crusher-grader) to model a complete scene. The SD30C-ECOs have been delivered in two batches:
the first batch was comprised of unit numbers 5000-5019 (delivered in 2013) and the second batch included units 5020-5049. (delivered in 2015/16)

All of the SD30C-ECOs were rebuilt from -donor- SD40-2s and were given brand new pilots, fuel tanks, cabs, and noses, but retained the frames, steps, and trucks of their donor units. (as well as a great deal of the internal mechanical parts) The long hoods of the donor units were cut up and some components were spliced into the rebuild construction, so the rear-most section of the long hood containing the cooling fans and angled radiator grids is all new material but the section of the long hood between the rear wall of the cab and the back of the DB blister is retained from the donor unit. This means that there are several variations of exhaust hatches and traction motor blower ducts depending on which class of SD40-2 the donor unit came from. Most units in both orders were built from Canadian donor units and have GMD ladder-style steps and end platform handrails, but there are a few units mixed into both orders that were built from American donor units and have the angled steps and handrail profile characteristic of La Grange-built SD40-2s. Despite the unit-to-unit inconsistencies owing to the varied classes of the donor units, there are (luckily) a few spotting differences that are consistent between the two batches of rebuilds.

Units 5000-5019 are not locotrol equipped and all feature a single tubular -radome- on the cab roof that encloses all antennae. (GPS, EOT, and radio) All units from this order have standard road numbers but no additional information or lettering on the cab sides. Horns are mounted on top of the conductors side of the long hood just behind the DB fans, and the bells are located under the frame on the conductors side, just ahead of the fuel tank. Details:
Tall steel viaducts are some of the most spectacular and interesting types of bridges. They are used by railroads to span wide and/or steep valleys, often replacing wooden trestles. These HO and HOn3 Tall Steel Viaducts are available in three base kits, three length extension kits, a height extension kit which adds a 4th and 5th story, and a tower kit. The various kits allow you to design and build your own custom bridge of any length from one to five stories high, with full towers or bents, and straight or curved. HO Scale SD30C-ECO - DCC & Sound - Canadian Pacific #5026

The SD30C-ECOs have been delivered in two batches:
the first batch was comprised of unit numbers 5000-5019 (delivered in 2013) and the second batch included units 5020-5049. (delivered in 2015/16)

All of the SD30C-ECOs were rebuilt from -donor- SD40-2s and were given brand new pilots, fuel tanks, cabs, and noses, but retained the frames, steps, and trucks of their donor units. (as well as a great deal of the internal mechanical parts) The long hoods of the donor units were cut up and some components were spliced into the rebuild construction, so the rear-most section of the long hood containing the cooling fans and angled radiator grids is all new material but the section of the long hood between the rear wall of the cab and the back of the DB blister is retained from the donor unit. This means that there are several variations of exhaust hatches and traction motor blower ducts depending on which class of SD40-2 the donor unit came from. Most units in both orders were built from Canadian donor units and have GMD ladder-style steps and end platform handrails, but there are a few units mixed into both orders that were built from American donor units and have the angled steps and handrail profile characteristic of La Grange-built SD40-2s. Despite the unit-to-unit inconsistencies owing to the varied classes of the donor units, there are (luckily) a few spotting differences that are consistent between the two batches of rebuilds.

Units 5000-5019 are not locotrol equipped and all feature a single tubular -radome- on the cab roof that encloses all antennae. (GPS, EOT, and radio) All units from this order have standard road numbers but no additional information or lettering on the cab sides. Horns are mounted on top of the conductors side of the long hood just behind the DB fans, and the bells are located under the frame on the conductors side, just ahead of the fuel tank. SBD/CSXT Black Repaint 1987+ takes us back to early days of the CSX. In 1987, the ex-L&N South Louisville Car Shops were still in full swing, repainting cars. These repaints featured SBD reporting marks and the now-familiar CSX logo on the hopper car sides. This group of CSX repaints is pulled from ex-L&N Bethlehem cars built in 1976. The models feature an accurate body for this ex-L&N series, including rounded top chord corner caps, paired lower posts at the side bolsters, and tiny accurate triangle supports on the bottom chord near the bolster posts. The B-end of the model features an accurate Universal 7400 high handbrake, modern brake wheel and Morton-style brake step. Inside, the models have a gorgeous (and removable!) flood-style coal load.
