The EMD F7 was a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW) Diesel-electric locomotive produced between February 1949 and December 1953 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD) and General Motors Diesel (GMD).
Although originally promoted by EMD as a freight-hauling unit, the F7 was also used in passenger service hauling such trains as the Santa Fe Railways Super Chief and El Capitan.
The F7 was the fourth model in GM-EMDs successful line of F unit locomotives, and by far the best-selling cab unit of all time. In fact, more F7s were built than all other F units combined. It succeeded the F3 model in GM-EMDs F unit sequence, and was replaced in turn by the F9. Final assembly was at GM-EMDs La Grange, Illinois plant or GMDs London, Ontario facility.
The F7 differed from the F3 primarily in internal equipment (mostly electrical) and some external features. Its continuous tractive effort rating was 20% higher (e.g. 40,000 lb (18,000 kg) for an F7 with 65 mph (105 km/h) gearing, compared to 32,500 lb (14,700 kg) for an F3 with the same gearing.) A total of 2,366 cab-equipped lead A units and 1,483 cabless-booster or B units were built. Many F7s remained in service for decades, as railroads found them economical to operate and maintain.

LN Family Lines -Original 12-1980- is an exciting offering for us, championed by Family Lines and CSX modelers alike. Built in 1980, the L&N cars have those distinctive wider jacking tabs associated with much (but not all!) of Pullmans late production. The center sill correctly models the brake linkage -access holes- on one side of the car, just like the real ones. Notice the side posts - they are the proper -closed hole- style at the bottom. This matches the L&N order exactly. Our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks are beige to match the body paint. This is a big scheme, and we know the Family Lines modelers have been very patient.

PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
The 3-bay Center Flow covered hopper first entered service in the mid-1960s, built by American Car and Foundry. The cars handle loads such as grain, corn, and similar bulk commodities. The Center Flow design relies on the car?s rounded body to provide structural strength - eliminating the traditional center sill and making gravity unloading easier.
Our 3-bay car represents the common 4600 cu.ft. capacity version. The railroads looking to replace their aging 40? box cars in grain service needed a modern hopper design - one that could operate within the tighter Plate B clearances for light branchline and industrial service. ACF?s design won them many contracts from a plethora of railroads. One can find these cars still in revenue service today in grain trains and other similar service.

PROTOTYPE INFORMATION:
An intermodal container (also known as a container, freight container, ISO container, shipping container, hi-cube container, box, sea container, container van) is a standardized reusable steel box. Intermodal containers are used to store and move materials and products efficiently and securely in the global containerized intermodal freight transport system. Intermodal indicates that the container can be used across various modes of transport, (from ship to rail to truck) without unloading and reloading its contents. Lengths of containers, which each have a unique ISO 6346 reporting mark, vary from 8 to 56 feet (2.438 to 17.069 m) and heights from 8 feet (2.438 m) to 9 feet 6 inches (2.896 m). There are about 17 million intermodal containers in the world of varying types to suit different cargoes!

The M420 was equipped with the ALCO 12V-251c3 prime mover producing 2000 H.P. Most M420 units rode on MLW ZWT (Zero Weight- Transfer) trucks. The only exception to this were the 5 units built for the Providence & Worcester, which rode on ALCO trade-in FA trucks. The P&W required a different bolster design and different truck spacing, making them unique.
MLW constructed 103 M420s between May 1973 and February 1977 for four railways including CN (80), BCR (16 including eight B units), Ferrocarriles del Estado (2), Providence & Worcester (5).
CN would take delivery of the M420s in 3 groups: MR-20a class 2500-2529 (delivered 1973), MR-20b class 2530- 2559 (delivered 1974), and MR-20c class 2560-2579 (delivered 1976).
All of the CN units were retired by 1998 and today many of these locomotives have found second careers on short lines all over North America.

Beginning in the 1960s, automakers approached rail carriers with the desire for larger freight cars to transport auto parts from suppliers to manufacturing centers. In response, the 60Ft auto parts boxcar was introduced. Carrying a wide variety of auto components including engine blocks, transmissions, brake drums, and others, these cars were a fixture throughout North America for the next four decades and can still be found in service today. Often times, entire trains of auto parts and related cars could be seen near major production facilities as automakers switched to just-in-time delivery methods, requiring prompt deliveries from the railroads providing service. PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
The 3-bay CenterFlow covered hopper first entered service in the mid-1960s, built by American Car and Foundry. The cars handle loads such as grain, corn and similar bulk commodities. The Centerflow design relies on the cars rounded body to provide structural strength - eliminating the traditional center sill, and making gravity unloading easier. Our 3-bay car represents the common 4600 cu.ft. capacity version. The railroads looking to replace their aging 40Ft box cars in grain service needed a modern hopper design - one that could operate within the tighter Plate B clearances for light branchline and industrial service. ACFs design won them many contracts from a plethora of railroads. One can find these cars still in revenue service today in grain trains and other similar service.

In the spring of 1941 UP locomotive designers began working on a locomotive to team up with the new 4-8-8-4 Big Boys then under construction at Alco. The Big Boys were designed to pull heavy freights up the Wasatch Range in Utah to the division point at Green River, WY. What was needed was a locomotive to take over at that point that could speed the freights eastward across the Wyoming Division. Building on their experience with the original CSA 4-6-6-4 Challengers UP and Alcos designers developed a newer and better Challenger type locomotive. The result was a group of 65 4-6-6-4 Challenger built in three separate groups during World War II.

Union Pacific (UP) BF-90-5 -Delivery 1969- represents another frequently-requested paint scheme! Accurate Union Pacific armour yellow box cars are extremely rare in any scale, but here they are from Tangent Scale Models! UP ordered two different lots of Greenville auto parts box cars, and this lot was the earlier of the two orders. The prototypes were delivered with very large UP 1960s stencils ? the largest -Union Pacific Railroad-logo you will ever see, plus the largest -automated rail way- and -Cushioned Load- map logo that we very carefully recreated from the Greenvilles adaptation of the original Union Pacific plans. It is these sort of small details that Tangent pays attention to ? not all railroad graphics are consistent from car builder to car builder. Another cool stenciling thing about these cars? Like ATSF, UP has a stencil that explicitly says -Auto Parts- on the side. Gunderson Multi-Max Auto Rack - Norfolk Southern
In 2013, Greenbrier Companies introduced their new design of 89ft auto rack, the Multi-Max. The new design allows for changing configurations from a Bi-Level to a Tri-Level (and back) without adding or removing decks. The racks are fully compatible with existing 89ft auto racks. To this date, most of the racks have been built on Greenbrier Companies own specially designed 89ft flat cars. VIA Rail HEP 1 (2020 to Present)
Rapido is pleased to announce the Superior Stainless Budd Coaches, as well as VIA Rail HEP1 & HEP2 Coaches, in HO Scale.
All 30 Coaches were delivered to Canadian Pacific in 1954 and 1955 and were initially numbered in the 100-series under Canadian Pacific. All but one of the original coaches were transferred to VIA Rail Canada in 1978 and, save for those damaged in derailments, are all still in use today. They form the backbone of most of VIA Rail Canadas services to this day, found not only on the busy Quebec City-Windsor corridor, but on all other services across the country, including The Canadian, Ocean, Hudson Bay and northern Quebec services.
Beginning in the late 1980s, VIA Rail upgraded its entire ex CPR Budd stainless steel fleet with Head End Power (referred to as HEP), which allowed newer locomotives to be able to heat the trains without the need for aging steam generator cars. These cars are called HEP1 cars and are typically found on long-distance trains today. Many coaches and baggage cars can also be found in intercity service on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
Additionally, VIA Rail began purchasing second-hand Budd cars throughout 1990s from Amtrak and other second/third/forth-hand owners to supplement its fleet and allow for expansion. These cars would be completely rebuilt as either first class VIA 1 Cars or Coaches and were called HEP2 cars. These cars contain pass-through MU (multiple unit) cables and are almost exclusively found in intercity service on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
Our models are based on the original, steam-heated Canadian Pacific cars. However, we have tooled new HEP2 car sides as well as both HEP1 and HEP2 car ends.
Most of the Budd cars originally purchased by Canadian Pacific, as well as those bought used by VIA Rail, continue to form an integral part of both intercity and long distance services to this day. They will no doubt find a suitable use on your model railroad too.

Tamiya acrylic paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for either brush painting or air-brushing. These paints can be used on styrol resins, Styrofoam, wood, plus all of the common model plastics. The paint covers well, flows smoothly and can be blended easily.
When airbrushing make sure to use any of the following Tamiya thinners: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077
X designated colors have a glossy finish while XF designated colors are flat finish.
The paint can be also thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner will yield faster drying results and a harder finish.
For better paint brushing results use Paint Retarder for a smoother brushstroke free finish.

Tamiya TS clear-coat spray is a synthetic lacquer that cures in a short period of time. The spray paint is extremely useful for painting large model surfaces. Tamiya spray paints are not affected by acrylic or enamel paints, therefore, following the painting of the entire assembly, details can be added or highlighted using enamel and/or acrylic paints.
Allow paint to fully cure before using clear coat. This will prevent the clear coat from cracking due to different cure rates from the paint underneath. For best results allow up to one week. Make sure to test clear coating over decals before applying to a finished project. Applying clear coat can harm some decals.
NOTE: TAMIYA TS paint is not designed to be used with clear Polycarbonate/LEXAN R/C body shells. The paint will flake off. For Polycarbonate applications please use Tamiya PS spray paint.

Many of BNSFs SD75Ms were in storage by 2014-2015. The 20plus year old units were definately past their prime at this point, however, most of them still had a future. Norfolk Southern bought a total of seven units, to become NS 2800-2806. In addition, Progress Rail Leasing (PRLX) bought a large group of the units. They arrived to PRLX wearing several paint schemes, including the Santa Fe Warbonnet as well as BNSFs Heritage II paint. The units were hastily patched and placed into service, as of this writing they are leased to CN and KCS, but future leasing assignments are likely.
