HO Hyundai 48ft Exterior Post - NACS #200443
PROTOTYPE TYPE:
48ft Exterior Post containers were introduced in 1986 and were a common site on nearly all double stack container trains of the later 80s, 90s, and 2000s. These containers were used for domestic freight service and were purchased by numerous railroads and freight operators in large numbers. These containers were a unique design in which the front and side container panels were supported by aluminum channel posts mounted outside of the container box to provide additional capacity space for larger pallet stacks within the container interior. The posts are a simple spotting feature for these styles of containers. Hyundai was one of a handful of manufacturers of exterior post containers, and while nearly-identical in design to one of their competitors, the additional drainage channel on the top of the container at the head end, and full-height end corner posts differentiate this container from its competitors design. Some of these containers served secondary lives for more than one operator, leading to some interesting graphic combinations over their lifespans. Changes to over-the-road length allowances for 53ft containers and trailers brought about the eventual demise of the 48ft container and a majority of them were withdrawn from service during the mid-2000s and beyond, though limited numbers still remain in service today.

Full Throttle Decoder Operation for Diesels
It is often challenging to make a scale model perform like it has the mass of a 260,000lb locomotive pulling 5,000 tons or more! Some of this can be done with BEMF - when the loco feels a load, it will automatically rev up to work harder to pull this actual load. But this is often a flawed method in modeling. Today, model train car wheels are so free rolling the cars often do not simulate sufficient drag to replicate a typical prototype situation. Also, often we do not sufficiently weigh our cars to represent a scaled-down version of the prototype.
One of the biggest problems with BEMF controlled load is in our modeling and operations we often simulate loads inside a closed car. The payload inside a prototype car can weigh as much as 100-tons more than the car itself. This is especially important at operating sessions. Empties in and Loads out or vice versa. There is no way for a decoder to know the proposed weight of the cars it is pulling. Our car cards, showing whether a car is loaded or empty, are seen only by the operator, not by our decoders!
To compensate for what the decoder cannot know, we have created Full Throttle decoder features! FT features include Drive Hold, Run 8, Coast, improved Dynamic Brakes and a new Independent Brake feature.
Operating Modes
The V5 decoder supports all DCC programming modes and thanks to RailCom you may read out the CV values on the main, provided you have a command station supporting RailCom. There are utility registers for command stations that only facilitate programming of CVs ranging from 1 to 255.
The LokSound 5 decoder supports the Marklin braking sections, ZIMO HLU braking commands or the Lenz ABC system. Braking with DCC brake generators or with DC is also possible. The locomotive with a LokSound 5 decoder will also come to a halt when a Selectrix braking diode is switched into the circuit. The ABC push-pull feature enables the automatic commuting between two stations.
The LokSound 5 decoder is suitable for analog DC operation, AC and DCC command control.
Sound
The LokSound V5 decoder can reproduce up to 10 channels simultaneously. Each channel offers up to 16 Bit / 31250 kHz and for all practical purposes, one cannot detect any difference to the original. A dual class D audio power amplifier with 3W output power feeds the speakers with a permitted impedance of 4 to 32 Ohms. The huge 128 MBit sound memory assures sufficient storage capacity.
The volume of all individual sound fragments may be adjusted separately. The outstandingly flexible sound engine without a rigid flow chart facilitates a prototypical simulation of all conceivable rail movements. Three separately adjustable braking functions and two alternative load scenarios provide you with maximum control of your vehicles.
Functions
Subject to the type of interface, every LokSound V5 has at least 10 amplified outputs with multiple lighting functions available. The brightness of each output may be adjusted separately. Loksound 5 decoders with a PluX22 or 21MTC interface have an additional 4 outputs for controlling servos or as logic outputs.
Motor control
The LokSound V5 DCC decoder supplies up to 1.5A motor current and motor control has been improved. A variable PWM pulse frequency ranging from 10 kHz to 50 kHz results in silent operation, particularly for coreless motors making motor hum a thing of the past. Load control can now be adjusted with up to 10 separate CVs and will manage even the most difficult motor control issues. The unique Auto-Tune function facilitates the automatic calibration of the decoder to perfectly match the motor.

Many of BNSFs SD75Ms were in storage by 2014-2015. The 20plus year old units were definately past their prime at this point, however, most of them still had a future. Norfolk Southern bought a total of seven units, to become NS 2800-2806. In addition, Progress Rail Leasing (PRLX) bought a large group of the units. They arrived to PRLX wearing several paint schemes, including the Santa Fe Warbonnet as well as BNSFs Heritage II paint. The units were hastily patched and placed into service, as of this writing they are leased to CN and KCS, but future leasing assignments are likely.

A transport revolution started in the 1950s - the advent of the piggyback trailer. No longer was it necessary to transfer loads to and from freight cars to local trucks for shipment or delivery. Conrail ordered 100 GP15-1s in 1979. Intended for secondary and branch line trains, they featured snowplows on both ends for bidirectional use. These include a close coupling system to keep the A and B units close together on straights, yet still allow operation on model railroad curves. Three- and four-digit lighted number boards will also be produced. PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
The 3-bay CenterFlow covered hopper first entered service in the mid-1960s, built by American Car and Foundry. The cars handle loads such as grain, corn and similar bulk commodities. The Centerflow design relies on the cars rounded body to provide structural strength - eliminating the traditional center sill, and making gravity unloading easier. Our 3-bay car represents the common 4600 cu.ft. capacity version. The railroads looking to replace their aging 40Ft box cars in grain service needed a modern hopper design - one that could operate within the tighter Plate B clearances for light branchline and industrial service. ACFs design won them many contracts from a plethora of railroads. One can find these cars still in revenue service today in grain trains and other similar service.

This HO Scale Stealth Series EMD GP35 from Broadway Limited is based on the ubiquitous EMD GP35 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD and subsequently General Motors Diesel in the mid 1960s. Over 1300 of these locomotives were produced, and they were operated by virtually every major railroad in the United States. Addtionally 26 units were built for Canadian railroads and another 57 units were built for Mexican railroads. These freight locomotives were powered by EMD 567D3A 16-cylinder engines that generated 2500 horsepower.
This Stealth Series no-sound/DCC-ready model operates on DC out of the box, or a modeler can easily install their DCC decoder of choice. Out of the box, front and rear lights are directional, and other lights are always ON with track power. Additionally some lighting functions may be missing depending on selected aftermarket decoder the modeler installs. This model includes a 21-pin decoder socket so you can add your favorite DCC or sound decoder when you're ready. It also features a built-in speaker so you won't have to add one later. Other features include a heavy die cast chassis and select roadname-specific details. Its wheels profiled to operate on Code 70 and larger rail and curves of 18" radius but larger curves are recommended. The EMD GP35 is one of many Broadway Limited HO Scale Paragon4 locomotives.

Broadway Limited 8293 - HO RF-16 Sharknose GP30 - Paragon4 No Sound/DCC Ready - D&H #1216 (Blue Warbonnet)
Built between 1950 and 1953, the RF-16 Sharknose diesels were cab unit diesel locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works to the specifications of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Their distinctive contours were reminiscent of Raymond Loewy's design for the Pennsy's T1 class steam locomotive. Baldwin built a total of 160 of these locomotives - 109 A-units and 51 cabless booster B-units. In addition to the PRR, B&O and NYC railroads also operated a substantial number of the "Sharks".
The Sharknose locomotives were known as excellent "luggers". They regularly saw service hauling heavy ore and coal drags. The RF-16 Sharknose locomotives beat the F7 with 100 additional horsepower and tied the FA2 with 1600 horsepower. Unfortunately, they did not last as long as the F7's. With a few exceptions, most of the engines were retired by 1967.
In this production, we are offering A-B sets in four prototypically accurate paint schemes, along with a second A-unit available as a separate item. We are also offering the two D&H Sharks as single A-units. In addition to the prototypically accurate models, we are building models in several fantasy paint schemes that never quite made it to the rails, but would have been beautiful if they had. The CNJ and the MP owned Baldwin babyface locomotives, but didn't order the Sharks. The DMIR owned the EJ&E Sharks for a few months, but never repainted them. We have painted the models in a prototypical DMIR paint scheme. The ATSF and SP both tested the Baldwin demo set, but declined to order production models. We are offering models decorated in the appropriate ATSF and SP liveries if those railroads had decided to operate the "Sharks".
The railroads typically operated these in ABA configurations. Our A-B sets come with a Powered A-unit with Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC and an unpowered B-unit with a lightweight frame. We also offer an additional single powered A-unit for each paint scheme where appropriate. This single unit has our full Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC system. All of our models have road-specific details and lighting.

HO Scale SD30C-ECO - DCC & Sound - Canadian Pacific #5013
The SD30C-ECOs have been delivered in two batches:
the first batch was comprised of unit numbers 5000-5019 (delivered in 2013) and the second batch included units 5020-5049. (delivered in 2015/16)
All of the SD30C-ECOs were rebuilt from -donor- SD40-2s and were given brand new pilots, fuel tanks, cabs, and noses, but retained the frames, steps, and trucks of their donor units. (as well as a great deal of the internal mechanical parts) The long hoods of the donor units were cut up and some components were spliced into the rebuild construction, so the rear-most section of the long hood containing the cooling fans and angled radiator grids is all new material but the section of the long hood between the rear wall of the cab and the back of the DB blister is retained from the donor unit. This means that there are several variations of exhaust hatches and traction motor blower ducts depending on which class of SD40-2 the donor unit came from. Most units in both orders were built from Canadian donor units and have GMD ladder-style steps and end platform handrails, but there are a few units mixed into both orders that were built from American donor units and have the angled steps and handrail profile characteristic of La Grange-built SD40-2s. Despite the unit-to-unit inconsistencies owing to the varied classes of the donor units, there are (luckily) a few spotting differences that are consistent between the two batches of rebuilds.
Units 5000-5019 are not locotrol equipped and all feature a single tubular -radome- on the cab roof that encloses all antennae. (GPS, EOT, and radio) All units from this order have standard road numbers but no additional information or lettering on the cab sides. Horns are mounted on top of the conductors side of the long hood just behind the DB fans, and the bells are located under the frame on the conductors side, just ahead of the fuel tank.

An earlier purchaser of the AC4400CW, the units purchased by Chicago & Northwestern were again dressed in the attractive -Lighting Stripe- paint scheme, but now with the addition of an Operation Lifesaver decoration on the long hood. The AC traction paired well with the long heavy coal trains CNW was pulling out of the Powder River Basin. Many of these units lasted well after the UP acquisition of CNW in their original paint or with minor patching. These early versions rode on the first iteration of the Hi-Adhesion trucks with struts on all four corners of each trucks that were both shorter and inboard of the brake cylinders compared to later variations.

Oil arrived in tank cars and was transferred into on-site storage tanks. This versatile kit allows you to arrange it to fit available space. It includes a row of five tanks complete with rooftop walkways. A corrugated storage warehouse is perfect for loading barrels into trucks. At busy locations barrels would arrive in boxcars. A corrugated office and a pump house for filling up local delivery trucks can be arranged wherever needed. HO Budd Coach: CP Rail - Action Red: #114
CP RAIL (1968 to early 1980s)
Rapido is pleased to announce the Superior Stainless Budd Coaches, as well as VIA Rail HEP1 & HEP2 Coaches, in HO Scale.
All 30 Coaches were delivered to Canadian Pacific in 1954 and 1955 and were initially numbered in the 100-series under Canadian Pacific. All but one of the original coaches were transferred to VIA Rail Canada in 1978 and, save for those damaged in derailments, are all still in use today. They form the backbone of most of VIA Rail Canadas services to this day, found not only on the busy Quebec City-Windsor corridor, but on all other services across the country, including The Canadian, Ocean, Hudson Bay and northern Quebec services.
Beginning in the late 1980s, VIA Rail upgraded its entire ex CPR Budd stainless steel fleet with Head End Power (referred to as HEP), which allowed newer locomotives to be able to heat the trains without the need for aging steam generator cars. These cars are called HEP1 cars and are typically found on long-distance trains today. Many coaches and baggage cars can also be found in intercity service on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
Additionally, VIA Rail began purchasing second-hand Budd cars throughout 1990s from Amtrak and other second/third/forth-hand owners to supplement its fleet and allow for expansion. These cars would be completely rebuilt as either first class VIA 1 Cars or Coaches and were called HEP2 cars. These cars contain pass-through MU (multiple unit) cables and are almost exclusively found in intercity service on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
Our models are based on the original, steam-heated Canadian Pacific cars. However, we have tooled new HEP2 car sides as well as both HEP1 and HEP2 car ends.
Most of the Budd cars originally purchased by Canadian Pacific, as well as those bought used by VIA Rail, continue to form an integral part of both intercity and long distance services to this day. They will no doubt find a suitable use on your model railroad too.

What sets this model apart from other large box reefers? For starters, the Greenbrier 72ft IL 7780 Reefer has an impressive capacity of 7780 cu.ft., with a 72ft 3in interior length. This makes it a whopping 82ft over the drawbars. The storage capacity is massive and shippers take full advantage of this feature, shipping items such as light or bulky frozen and perishable items.
Since their introduction, the cars have commonly taken loads of potatoes, french fries and various perishables from the Pacific Northwest and California to points on the east coast. For a time, Union Pacific and CSX ran a joint train nicknamed The Salad Shooter for those purposes.
In 2020, Lineage Logistics acquired Cryo-Trans and placed more orders for the Greenbrier 7780 Reefers. The new deliveries came with different features, which slightly changed the exterior look. The cage around the reefer unit changed, the truck centers were made to be slightly closer, and a more prominent notch for the end step on the B-end was added. Lineage Logistics continued the tradition of applying a colorful paint scheme and individual car naming.

Tru-Color Railroad Color Acrylic Paint is a line of airbrush-ready paint accurately matched to colors used by railroads across the continent. The acrylic solvent based paint that is designed to be airbrushed directly from the bottle without thinning. The paint is designed for use on plastic models with no priming necessary, although you can use a primer if desired. Brass models must be sandblasted or treated before applying Tru-Color or the paint will not adhere properly. No additional gloss coat is necessary before applying decals to gloss or semi-gloss colors. Use acetone for airbrush cleanup, but do NOT thin Tru-Color Paint with acetone. PROTOTYPE INFO:
The SD45-2 was an initial success; it was a complete improvement or upgrade as part of EMDs Dash 2 line; it had little to almost absolutely no flaws during the early stages of production and during the models official introduction. It was both popular and compatible with the original SD45 as well, with its large 20-cylinder engine. The SD45-2 lasted somewhat longer than most SD45 units on various owners rosters.

Tamiya acrylic paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for either brush painting or air-brushing. These paints can be used on styrol resins, Styrofoam, wood, plus all of the common model plastics. The paint covers well, flows smoothly and can be blended easily.
When airbrushing make sure to use any of the following Tamiya thinners: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077
X designated colors have a glossy finish while XF designated colors are flat finish.
The paint can be also thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner will yield faster drying results and a harder finish.
For better paint brushing results use Paint Retarder for a smoother brushstroke free finish.

Gunderson Multi-Max Auto Rack - CSX
In 2013, Greenbrier Companies introduced their new design of 89ft auto rack, the Multi-Max. The new design allows for changing configurations from a Bi-Level to a Tri-Level (and back) without adding or removing decks. The racks are fully compatible with existing 89ft auto racks. To this date, most of the racks have been built on Greenbrier Companies own specially designed 89ft flat cars. These cars are commonly seen in cuts of other similar autorack cars or a solid unit train of autorack cars. Currently, almost 10,000 cars (with racks)are running on North American rails. Atlas rendition of the HO Gunderson Multi-Max will feature multiple variations and road names and is sure to be a star on your layout.

The Trinity 3230 Pressure Differential covered hopper is essentially a smaller version of TrinityRails 5660 PD. The smaller version was developed from the base design introduced by Thrall Car in the late 1990s.
The smaller size enables the cars to be loaded with heavier ladings such as cement and various grades of fly ash. Most of the cars are operated by Railcar (Leasing) companies or Shippers.
HO Scale SD30C-ECO - DC/DCC Ready - Canadian Pacific #5026
The SD30C-ECOs have been delivered in two batches:
the first batch was comprised of unit numbers 5000-5019 (delivered in 2013) and the second batch included units 5020-5049. (delivered in 2015/16)
All of the SD30C-ECOs were rebuilt from -donor- SD40-2s and were given brand new pilots, fuel tanks, cabs, and noses, but retained the frames, steps, and trucks of their donor units. (as well as a great deal of the internal mechanical parts) The long hoods of the donor units were cut up and some components were spliced into the rebuild construction, so the rear-most section of the long hood containing the cooling fans and angled radiator grids is all new material but the section of the long hood between the rear wall of the cab and the back of the DB blister is retained from the donor unit. This means that there are several variations of exhaust hatches and traction motor blower ducts depending on which class of SD40-2 the donor unit came from. Most units in both orders were built from Canadian donor units and have GMD ladder-style steps and end platform handrails, but there are a few units mixed into both orders that were built from American donor units and have the angled steps and handrail profile characteristic of La Grange-built SD40-2s. Despite the unit-to-unit inconsistencies owing to the varied classes of the donor units, there are (luckily) a few spotting differences that are consistent between the two batches of rebuilds.
Units 5000-5019 are not locotrol equipped and all feature a single tubular -radome- on the cab roof that encloses all antennae. (GPS, EOT, and radio) All units from this order have standard road numbers but no additional information or lettering on the cab sides. Horns are mounted on top of the conductors side of the long hood just behind the DB fans, and the bells are located under the frame on the conductors side, just ahead of the fuel tank.
